Bruxism is an oral condition in which you grind or clench your teeth together while you sleep. This clenching and grinding can cause a lot of problems with your teeth, such as cracking them, wearing them down, and creating tension in your temporomandibular joint. Bruxism can be caused by stress, anxiety, an abnormal bite, teeth that are missing, sleep disorders or crooked teeth.

It can be difficult to diagnose bruxism because people are asleep when the clenching and grinding occurs. This can be frustrating to patients. However, there are some waking symptoms to watch out for. These symptoms include:

-damaged dental restorations
-damage to the inside of your cheeks
-loose permanent teeth
-teeth beginning to look flat and dull
-damaged or fractured teeth

Be aware of these symptoms, and don’t hesitate to talk with our team at Lemon Grove Dental Group, Inc.

One condition related to bruxism is temporomandibular joint disorder, commonly referred to as TMJ. Some symptoms that would suggest TMJ disorder are having trouble opening or closing your mouth when you wake up, waking up with a sore jaw or increased tooth sensitivity.
